MEGA to welcome the largest sports and health centre in the Baltics

2015-05-27

VS-Fitness will be opening the largest sports and health centre in the Baltics at MEGA shopping and leisure centre in Kaunas, Lithuania. At 7,500 square metres, the new sports centre will be a unique project for its size, modern equipment and range of activities. The only sports and health centre of its kind in the Baltics will open its doors in autumn 2016.

“This centre will offer residents and guests of Kaunas an especially broad range of services. This will be a place where tennis, squash, fitness, cycling and martial arts enthusiasts can come to work out, as well as those who are interested in aerobics or modern dance. The gym will also offer separate sauna zones for men and women with relaxation lounges,” says Antanas Sakalauskas, UAB VS-Fitness gym manager.

The new sports centre will have competition standard outdoor tennis courts and professional squash courts. There will also be a specially designed gym featuring state-of-the-art equipment, a climbing wall and a martial arts room with Everlastequipment, which is the leading brand worldwide. This will be the only gym in Lithuania with a skiing and fitness bike zone with an interactive screen in lieu of an instructor for those exercising individually.

When it opens its doors in the expanded MEGA shopping and leisure centre, this will be the only health centre in Europe boasting the newest equipment tested by the same rehabilitation physicians who work with basketball players from the NBA. The medical treatment centre will welcome professional athletes as well as every MEGA customer. The health centre will offer consultation, diagnostics, body composition analysis, sports rehabilitation, testing, massages and other services. It will also have a natural juice bar and a sports equipment shop.

The property managers of MEGA confirm that during expansion, the shopping centre will operate normally. “Expansion will not affect operation of the shopping centre, and we will ensure that our visitors are provided with maximum comfort. Preparatory works are already being carried out, and we have set up another entrance to the shopping centre for the convenience of our customers. Located at the back of the shopping centre, the new entrance makes it even easier to reach Rimi Hypermarket and the other shops located next to it,” says Ms Vyšniauskienė, Baltic RED marketing manager.

The new sports and health centre will begin to operate after reconstruction and expansion of MEGA is complete. Once it is, MEGA will become the largest shopping centre in central Lithuania, with over 102,000 square metres of floor space. Together with Swedbank, which is financing the project, AB Baltic Shopping Centers – which is controlled by the Rakauskas family – will invest EUR 45 million (LTL 155 million) into the MEGA shopping and entertainment centre development project.
