2015-10-14

AB Panevėžio Statybos Trestas and the real estate investment company AB Baltic Shopping Centers have signed a general construction contract regarding expansion of the Mega Shopping and Leisure Centre. The contract price is EUR 33.7 million. On completion, Mega will occupy a total area of 102,000 square meters. Completion is scheduled by November 2016.

AB Panevėžio Statybos Trestas will implement the technical design prepared by the Viltekta design services company. The Baltic Engineers engineering services company will be responsible for technical supervision of construction works. The total area of the building, including a multi-story car park will amount to 54,000 square meters. The proposed new design will encompass an additional shopping mall, which will allow visitors to the centre to move around the shopping centre in a circle more conveniently. The trade premises on the first level of the shopping centre will also be expanded.

The expanded area of the Mega Centre will accommodate 70 new shops, services and entertainment facilities. Green zones will be developed near the shopping centre: mini parks with children’s playgrounds, an amphitheatre and outdoor commercial spaces. Rolandas Palekas, the winner of the National Award, is the architect responsible for the architectural concept of the Mega expansion, which stands out with its modernity and harmony.

“We are delighted to be highly regarded and to have been selected by the investors to implement this important project, which is unique for its scope and professional solutions. Together with the commercial real estate development and management company Baltic RED, which is the project developer of the Mega expansion, we are coordinating the construction organisation process which is due to commence soon”, Dalius Gesevičius, director general of AB Panevėžio Statybos Trestas, said.

Rasa Vyšniauskienė, marketing manager of Baltic RED which manages the Mega Centre, stated that following the development, the retail trade area of Mega will increase by over 40% to 102,000 square metres, and the number of tenants will grow to 200.

Managers of Mega said that they would continue to operate normally during the expansion. “When we signed the construction contract we paid special attention to the construction organisation process, which must organically adapt to the operations of the centre. We want our customers to be comfortable and will do our best to ensure that there is minimum disruption to their shopping experience while the construction works are ongoing”, Ms Vyšniauskienė said.

The AB Baltic Shopping Centers investment company, which manages a commercial real estate portfolio of nearly EUR 200 million, will invest EUR 47 million together with Swedbank to fund the Mega expansion project.
