Distribution:Indo-Pacific, Red Sea and East Africa to the Hawaiian Islands and Tuamotu Archipelago. They are not found or are found rarely in the eastern Mediterranean basin (through the Suez Canal).

Biology:They occur singly or in small groups. They prefer reef fish, but also feed on crabs, cephalopods and other mollusks.
